The Ministry of Environment and Forestry or KLHK has handled 941 legal cases from various complaints. Of these, 518 cases have been administratively sanctioned.
Director General of Law Enforcement (Gakkum) Environment and Forestry KLHK Ratio Ridho Sani said, as many as 941 cases consisted of 488 companies and 453 non-companies. The administrative sanctions that have been given for 518 cases are government coercion for 207 cases, 297 warning letters, and 14 written warnings. “The number of law enforcement is quite intensive because the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has a specialist unit. So, the institutional side can also be a reflection if we want to strengthen the enforcement of natural resources," he said at the KLHK year-end reflection event in Jakarta. was subject to administrative sanctions. While the civil cases that have been resolved since 2015-2021 were 31 lawsuits and 25 of them were won by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. This civil lawsuit has even resulted in compensation for environmental restoration amounting to Rp 20.7 trillion. Executive Director of the Indonesian Institute for the Study of Environmental Law (ICEL) Raynaldo Sembiring said, as a transformation step, in the future it is necessary to first define the goals of restorative justice in the environment and forestry sector. This restorative justice should not only be related to the termination of the case, but also the complete completion of law enforcement. This means that new cases are declared completed after restoration or environmental restoration actions are carried out.
