Strategic Position for “President's Confidant”
Three former commanders of the Presidential Guard (Danpaspampres) under President Joko Widodo were promoted to three-star high-ranking officers. Two former assistants also got strategic positions.
The phenomenon of the "president" has become history repeating itself. The promotion is stated in the Decree Number 66/I/2022 dated January 21, 2022 concerning Dismissal from and Appointment in Position within the TNI which was signed by the TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa, Andika also previously had became Danpaspampres in 2014-2016 before becoming Chief of Staff of the Army in 2018-2021. The three former Paspampres commanders who occupy the three-star general position are Major General Agus Subiyanto, Major General Maruli Simanjuntak, and Major General (Mar) Suhartono. In addition to the three former Paspampres commanders, two former aides to President Joko Widodo also occupy strategic positions. Brigadier General Widi Prasetijono became the Commander General of Kopassus which is a Major General position. The commander of Korem 074/Warastratatama, Colonel Rudy Saladin, who has only been in office for four months, was also promoted to Commander of Korem Suryakencana, which is a brigadier general position. The phenomenon of "president's men" holding strategic posts is also not new. In the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, for example, in 2008, the post of Pangkostrad was filled by Erwin Sudjono and the Danjen of Kopassus was held by Pramono Edhi Wibowo. Both are SBY's brother-in-law. The history of assignment to posts that are in direct contact with the President has long been one of the "paths" of promotion in the military.
