The King of Cooking Oil in Indonesia: Eka Tjipta Soars

One of the well-known brands in the Migor market in Indonesia is the well-known Bimoli. Bimoli's footprint in the Indonesian migrant market is inseparable from the figure of Oei Ek Tjong alias Eka Tjipta Widjaja.
In the early 1960s he founded CV Sinar Mas, which is engaged in the import-export sector. He shipped commodities and imported textiles from outside. Oei Ek Tjong then had another name Eka Tjipta Widjaja. 1968 became an important year in the history of his life. Where to build a coconut oil refinery named CV Bitung Manado Oil. Bitung and Manado are the names of important cities in North Sulawesi which produce copra. The product he sold came to be known as Bimoli. The name seems to be an abbreviation of the company name Bitung Manado Oil Limited. Around the 1970s, Liem Sioe Liong then approached him. The result of their joint venture was the birth of PT Sinar Mas Inti Perkasa. In PT Sinar Mas Inti Perkasa, as stated by Richard Borsuk and Nancy Chng in Liem Sioe Liong and Salim Group (2016:307) Eka only has a 45 percent stake. Liem is also 45 percent and the remaining 10 percent is owned by Sigit bin Suharto. After 1991, Eka and Liem split up in the migration business. Eka's Sinar Mas left the partnership without Bimoli, but continues to do business with cooking oil as well. Sinar Mas carries the cooking oil brands Kunci Mas and Filma. After the success of Bimoli's migraine, Eka's business then expanded beyond cooking oil.
